Teaching Children God’s Moral Law (#4)

What does God require of people and what instructions has He given for their behaviour, actions and attitudes? Knowing the law reveals our need for a Savior! Galatians 3:24 says:

Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. (NKJV)

The very first verse most children learn is Ephesians 6:1

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. (NKJV)

And as most parents quickly realize, a child is incapable of obeying from the heart without a heart change. As a child is constantly being confronted with his inability to do right, as parents consistently require obedience, he will open to the discussion of the Gospel and how Jesus is the answer to his sin problem.

Memorizing the Ten Commandments as a family is one way that is helpful to get God’s law into their minds.

Some of the Child Training Texts have wonderfully helpful lists of God’s requirements for our behaviour.

Another aspect of teaching kids what God requires is teaching not just the “don’ts” but the “do’s.” Here are some positive-geared Character Training resources.
