New this fall… Group Violin Lessons!

The Bridge to Learning

This year, Joyful Melody Studio will be offering an exciting new thing! Group violin lessons will now be available for beginning or early intermediate students. I’m excited to help your child embark on a lifelong journey of love for music and for playing the violin.

I currently have a class for children turning 5 or 6 in the 2017-2018 school year. I am offering another class is for children between 9 and 12, and would be open to creating other groups as needed. The cost will be $25 per 1 hour class that meets weekly. (Receipts are available for reimbursement or tax purposes).

For the younger students, I’m planning to make it 1 hour long with lots of activities. We will sing songs, play rhythm games, learn the notes on the staff in a fun way, learn proper bow hold, the parts of the violin, placing the violin in walking and shoulder positions, and how to play violin in pizzicato (plucking) and with the bow. I use a modified Suzuki method and emphasize encouragement and proper technique.

For the older students, we will learn the violin basics, along with note reading and ensemble practice. I will also work with them in a master class style–listening to each student individually and offering comments and input from the group.

As a child I loved being a part of group lessons. It’s enjoyable to play as a group and is a way for students to encourage each other as they progress. If you would like to find out more, please contact me by commenting or using the contact information available here.

All the best!

Meg

Sun of my soul

Sun of my soul, Thou Savior dear,
It is not night if Thou be near;
O may no earthborn cloud arise
To hide Thee from Thy servant’s eyes.

When the soft dews of kindly sleep
My wearied eyelids gently steep,
Be my last thought, how sweet to rest
Forever on my Savior’s breast.

Abide with me from morn till eve,
For without Thee I cannot live;
Abide with me when night is nigh,
For without Thee I dare not die.

If some poor wandering child of Thine
Has spurned today the voice divine,
Now, Lord, the gracious work begin;
Let him no more lie down in sin.

Watch by the sick, enrich the poor
With blessings from Thy boundless store;
Be every mourner’s sleep tonight,
Like infants’ slumbers, pure and right.

Come near and bless us when we wake,
Ere through the world our way we take,
Till in the ocean of Thy love
We lose ourselves in Heaven above.

Scales, scales, and more scales…

No, I’m not talking about trout. I’m talking about my upcoming technique test. Three key signatures a week—with lots of variations on the same theme 😀

Scales are hard. Not so much that they have lots of new notes and skills, but because they are all about honing those notes and skills until they’re perfect. Perfect bowing, perfect intonation. And you can practice being perfect forever… back to that word “practice.” I’d better go do just that.
